Update an installation

Run these commands from your GSD Path clone. Preview updates before applying them, then restart the agent session so it reloads the skills.

Update global skills

git pull
node scripts/install.mjs --update --dry-run
node scripts/install.mjs --update

--update refreshes hosts that already have GSD Path installed. Add host flags to select specific installations. Existing managed skills move to disabled-gsd-skills beside each skill root before replacement.

Refresh an existing project

node scripts/install.mjs --update --project /absolute/path/to/your-project --dry-run
node scripts/install.mjs --update --project /absolute/path/to/your-project

This refreshes managed .gsd-path/ files and retains AGENTS.md, WORKFLOW.md, and .claude/CLAUDE.md. Compare upstream contract changes and merge them by hand. The installer does not rewrite active .project/ artifacts.

Update project-local skills

Run from the target repository using the absolute installer path:

cd /absolute/path/to/your-project
node /absolute/path/to/gsd-path/scripts/install.mjs --update --local --dry-run
node /absolute/path/to/gsd-path/scripts/install.mjs --update --local

Refresh hooks and runtime

Need	Flag with `--project PATH`
Refresh managed runtime and installed guard scripts	`--hooks-refresh`
Also refresh native settings and Git hooks	`--hooks-refresh-full`
Add guards to an existing project while keeping its contracts	`--hooks-init` plus your host flags

See guard hooks for host activation requirements. A refresh refuses unrecognized files rather than overwriting them.

Check the result

node scripts/install.mjs --doctor --project /absolute/path/to/your-project

Restart the host, then ask the router for status. For detailed migration notes on older contracts, read UPDATE.md.
